The Bank will get your Ass!

So I know I have not posted a blog up in a long long time. But the last few months have been extremely errr complicated. So here is my story I started a student checking account with Commerce Bank about a year and a half ago, one of the feature was that any transactions that would put your account into negative was automatically declined. So for frivolous spenders, like myself I did not have to worry about dealing with those nasty overdraft chargers. Well guess again. When Commerce and TD North joined together to form TD Bank, that feature was taken off. Unaware of this change I would continue using my debit card and knew I did not have much money in my account but was relying on being declined or my paycheck to put money back into my account. Well the other day I went onto my online banking to see that I was -$860.00 in my checking account. After I had a panic attack and picked myself off the ground I called costumer service to see how this could happen. They explained to me that this feature has been taken off and there was a packet sent to my house explaining this. Okay, who really reads those packets in the first place? And I never received one and if I did I am sure my parents throw it out. But how did I got to -$800 ?! Well for every transaction made will you are in the negative you get charged with a $35 overdraft fee. But the cherry on top of all this bullshit, they wouldn't refund me all of my overdraft fees because I logged onto my online banking after I started over-drafting and they said that I had to know. Well the website was doing maintenance and would not allow me to see my checking account so do you think that I would have continued to use my debit card?
All the money I had saved up for my car insurance and getting my car fixed went to replenishing my bank account. UGH!!!
So this is what I am telling you, especially if you are young and on your own like myself.
If you have a checking account be sure to check your account DAILY! Yes, Daily. I know it sounds silly to do so but look at what happened to me. Make sure you're keeping enough money in your account and be aware of how much money you are spending. Try to use cash if possible. Also check with your bank to see what their policy is with over-drafting and to see if they can decline any transactions that will put you into the negative.
Hopefully this was more helpful than a rant!
Ciao Ciao
